The Power of Belief

Up on stage, like lost in a page.
The audience in trance, as the TED talker pranced.
Growth Mindset.
The idea sounds great, very positive, very productive. And you’d be right. For all those that like TED, not the movie the talk, there is a fascinating lecture conducted by Eduardo Briceño on how crucial your mindset is for success in life.
Focus and persistence, “these are all by-products of something much more powerful, something we can all develop” (Tedx Talks 2012). For Eduardo had realised an open mind, eager to learn is the key to unlocking true potential. This potential is driven through a desire to be the best and overcome failure. The drive to conduct yourself not based on looking good or being better than others, but being better than your past self.
To show this a study was referenced. Conducted by Carol Dweck she tested the growth mindset theory in a classroom setting. Giving young children a small puzzle half were told of their natural success, while the others of success through hard work. Over the course of the experiment the children told of their earned accomplishments did, and continued to do significantly better than those who ‘inherited’ it.
The experiment proved how only a slight change in your beliefs can make drastic changes on your outcomes. Carol Dweck continues to encourage a growth mindset through one simple word, “The power of Yet”(Stanford Alumni 2014).
The egalitarian approach means that no matter the circumstances you were brought up on, a change in your perception of the world will drastically change your life. The positive outlook is very important as it means no matter where you are, you can get out of it. It is not the world to blame, but yourself.
From Justin Beibers, “Never say never!”, to Shia Labeoufs “Just do it”, if you ever have a roadblock you can’t seem to overcome, instead say...
I can’t do this.. Yet.
